Paper toy workshop

During the half term break I had the opportunity to lead a workshop at Sheffield's Children's Hospital, on making paper toys. I had a fantastic day. I only worked with a very small number of patients, but they all loved it, and it was really great to see what an impact it had. One girl would barely grunt un response at the start of the day, but by the end of it she was laughing and joking. It would be amazing to do this all the time! 

February Workshops

In February I had great fun leading a workshop at Derby Quad, teaching a group how to design and make their own Robot paper toy. They were all boys, and I think my work was all a bit cute for them, with by far not enough guns! They came up with some great work!

Robot Tower

I started a new job several weeks ago, and it's full time, so it is more difficult getting to do the chance do any illustrations. Especially with trying to finish off the digital magazine, Air Monkeys, that me and my husband run with a few friends.

So the long and short of it, is that it has taken me a very long time to get this one done!

It is my first attempt at using perspective on Illustrator, I'm still running CS3 at the moment, so it is a bit limited on perspective options. It was more of a challenge than I expected it to be, and I still didn't get it bang on, but I'm fairly happy with it.

 The top one is just how I feel most of the time! I remember getting to year 6 at primary school and thinking I was so grown up, but now I'm actually supposed to be I feel far from it!

New patterns

Just a few new patterns I came up with the other month for a competition ran by Tiger Print. The prints are all designed to appeal to a male audience

A little while back you may have read my post about the new sideline that me and my husband have set up called "Robots and Rainbows" The initial idea was that we wanted to create fun, bold t-shirts that we would like to wear and hoped that other people would too.
We would eventually like to print or press the T-shirts ourselves, but to do that we need to do a lot of learning and money saving, so in the mean time we have set up a society6 shop, which sells our designs as prints, t-shirts, hoodies, i-phone cases,  laptop and i-pad skins and i-phone and i-pod skins. The company is US based, but there is FREE worldwide shipping until the end of Sunday (not long left!)

Handmade sketch books

A few weeks back I decided to have a go at making some handmade notebooks, and I'm quite pleased with how they turned out. They consist of a lino printed card front cover. with 40 pages of printer paper and a nice ribbon book marker. I sewed the pages in with a sewing machine, Originally I thought I'd have a go doing it by hand, but my needle just wouldn't go through all the pages!

The books are A5 in size, perfect for popping in your bag, taking on the train or just leaving round the house for making notes and doodles in :). They are for sale in my shop

I will definitely be making more books in the future, hopefully some more ambitious ones too!

Hey everyone, I know it's been a little while since my last post.

You have already seen glimpses of these guys, but now they each have a proper image of themselves.
Really quite pleased with how they turned out!

Some of the colours are slightly off on here, as I forgot to save it to RGB mode.

Opinions are welcome!

Which character do people like the best?

Many more characters are in the pipeline for other things. But these are the core characters for the 'Mush-noo' series, with guest appearances from tinman Trevor who has appeared before.

As you may have seen my artwork tends to jump around a bit, but I think that this is what I will mostly be concentrating on for now. Creating cute little characters makes me very happy!

I am also working on creating some more actual physical paintings, rather than just digital work.

                       

you still can't quite beat the feel of a paintbrush as it slaps the canvas! Is very difficult getting a finish as smooth as in illustrator though! Well frankly it is obviously impossible!

Meet Tin-man Trevor!

I have gotten in some bad habits of late. I spend far too much time on the internet, thinking I'm doing things that are useful and need doing, but in fact really don't! It's so easy to see your time disappear down a black hole! I am vowing to set aside 'internet-free days"

I had one of these days recently, and found I was much more productive! I managed to produce these three sketches within about an hour

It's amazing how quickly you can get ideas down with the good old method of pencil and paper! Sometimes the old fashioned methods are the best. Now these babies are ready to be painted and/ or vectorised  :D, lots of fun ahead!

What I have been doing recently

Here is my latest illustration. 

I feel that Mushnoo will be a regular feature in my work, and for a while now I have been wanting to write/illustrate a children's book featuring him and his friends. The character was first conceived about 2 years ago, so I'm taking my time! I must put the objective in a list, because then I will probably actually do it! I have a thing about lists! Again I'm still experimenting with styles, but must say I'm pretty pleased with this one! I have also created a pattern using Mushnoo and his main friends.

Again I'm really stoked with this especially as it is the first pattern I have created.




I have also been working on my crocheting skills! I'm getting there slowly! My aim is to be able to make an amigurumi creature by the end of the year! A long way to go yet! Still only learnt slip stitch and double crochet.


Oh and here is my first ever origami crane

only 999 more to make to get all my wishes granted!






Finally had another great day at Madeley High school this week getting the children to come up with their own installations. It took a while for them to grasp the idea, but now they're doing brilliantly. I can't wait to see their final pieces! Will post the pics up on here when they are done!
